My Journey to Writing a Book

Hello, and welcome to my blog!

My Pen Name is Everic Scott and I am a Writer. There is a lot of controversy on whether or not a person should be allowed to call themselves a writer or not - that's because people expect you to be able to provide them with a book you've written if that's the case. Well, I will admit I have not yet published a book but I have been passionate about writing for years. I have written poetry, short stories and quite a few songs. I also have a couple of books that I am currently working on right now.

I thoroughly love to write. I may not be the most brilliant of writers and certainly still do have much to learn, in terms of grammar and all that fun stuff, but we all have to start somewhere. Even though for years I have been writing I had never taken it seriously enough to want to pursue it past the walls of my home. When I began to write my first book I did have the dream of one day being able to publish it, and that was the first time I had ever set my sights on a possible career in writing. Here's a link to a great article I read today about "At What Point Do You Call Yourself a Writer?"

I have explored the different avenues of which writers have the choice of getting their work published - traditional publishing or self-publishing. No doubt it would be most writers dreams to be able to land a contract with a major publishing company for their book, but the self-publishing way has been gaining ground and a lot of authors are choosing this path instead. There are pros and cons for both, which I won't go into, but I've come to accept either way to be fine. In fact, for my first book, I am planning on taking the self-publishing route myself through either createspace.com or lulu.com. It does entail doing a lot of the work yourself if you do not intend on sinking your money into the extra services these companies offer, but it's completely free to self-publish and get your book out there. Although, I have read about people not enjoying their experience due to certain conflicts with amazon.com but they are the biggest market for self-publishers to deal with so there aren't many options for people if they are set on self-publishing.

So the point of this blog was merely to declare to people, if not only to myself, that I am decided - I'm going to write a book. I already have a book that I am working on that I think would be a great start to be able to get the feel of the self-publishing world. It's not as big of a project as my other book that I am also working on, so I felt that it would be the perfect choice.

Thanks for reading, and I am looking forward to sharing this adventure with you!
